For New Year's I travelled to the capital city (a 10.5 hr bus ride total) with my friend Shirley. She had some friends there who were hosting a party ... it was a blast! With some young couples and a few other singles - representing 6 different nationalities - we prayed in the New Year. In three different languages, we thanked the LORD for His faithfulness this past year and prayed for the moving of His Spirit in this country in the coming year!
We also had some amazing food, fun games (Clue, Dutch Blitz, etc), watched fireworks from their balcony, toasted and shared hopes and expectations for the new year. It was a great time that I didn't want to end! It continues to astound me how quickly lasting friendship can be made.
After not much sleep, I woke up in time to wish my friends and family back home a Happy New Years ... 9 hours after I celebrated it! Crazy-ness!
