BIG DEAL #1:
The first is that a young boy walked out of a store and immediately started talking to me in a language I didn't recognize. I knew he had to be talking to me because no one else was around. So I stared at him.
He then said "hello" and I replied "Hello. Do you speak English?"
"No" he said. Awkward silence and walking.
Then he manage to studder, "You Russian talk?" I replied negative and then we continued walking together in silence before he turned away.
Apparently I look Russian! Well, at least I don't look obviously, stand-out American all the time!
BIG DEAL #2:
The other day I stopped by a stand to buy fruit. As I was looking over the kiwi's to decide which ones to get, the owner said "fresh today" from his chair in the corner.
Now the reason this is a BIG deal is because he said it in his language .... the one that I have been getting frustrated with! But this time I understood!!!
Now, I could not have come up with the phrase myself, but I knew the words and I understood him! HORRAY!
"Two small steps for Julie ... :)"
A sunset I captured in a remote region ... it reminded me of Indiana sunsets! :)
i love your mile markers... totally understand the feeling.
ReplyDeletei have had a couple myself.
